Canada

A red, symmetrical 11-pointed maple leaf stands in the middle of this flag, in front of a red background and a centred white square. The design was created in 1964 with the intention that it was truly neutral and did not biasedly reflect either the English or French speaking regions of Canada. (At this time, the french-speaking region of Quebec was trying to become independent and the government did not want to create an English-centred flag that would encourage them to claim sovereignty.) The simple design is a symbol of unity and celebrates all Canadian people – wthout distinction of race, language, belief or opinion.
